Student visa to study in Japan

A visa waiver is available for many nationalities to take a short language course in Japan for up to 90 days. The period can even be extended by another 90 days for some nationalities.

In order to study in Japan for a longer period of time, you will need a student visa. Applicants for a Japanese school must submit a number of visa-related documents prior to being accepted. A six-month waiting period will be required before you can apply to your school for the course. After 1 month of your course starting, a COE (Certificate of Eligibility) will be sent to you. With this document you can do the final visa application at the Japanese Embassy in your home country.
